The meteoric rise of Pigalle is incredibly interesting to me. When  The New York Times profiled designer/founder Stephane Ashpool a few months back, the storyline was basically about how to keep a brand true to its local roots, while building what has become a worldwide brand. The clothing Pigalle produces is based around the lifestyle he's known for and the Paris neighborhood he's never left and has since become the figurehead of. Before Pigalle was the official cool guy focal point of Paris Fashion Week, their previous collections have been mainly entry-level streetwear. Those very same hoodies, sweats and tees are still the brand's bread and butter, but F/W 15 continues their recent trend of completely blowing out their repertoire through a much broader inspiration board: colors that span the visible light spectrum, unique fabric choices from stain to fleece and cuts that you wouldn't necessarily associate with what more or less qualifies as a fledgling streetwear label. Diamond patterning shows up in a few places, running down the arms and legs of tracksuits, weird Wingdings-type font circulates around cuffs and a distinct mustard yellow stands out even when paired with zebra-like black and white stripes. The layering was on steroids with long shirts underneath short jackets and hooded fleece pullovers that hang below the knee, along with pants that zip up the outside of the leg all the way to the thigh. This stuff might very well become the hella advanced streetwear of the future, but, as always with Pigalle, let's see what actually makes it into production first.
